Since 1993 Heath W. Lowry has been the Atatiirk Professor of Ottoman & Modern Turkish Studies at Princeton University. Prior to that time he was a founding member of the History Department at the Bosporus University in Istanbul (1973-1980), and a Senior Research Associate at lIarvard University's Dumbarton Oaks Research Library & Collection in Washington, D.C. Currently, together with his position at Princeton University, he serves as an Advisor to Enver Yficel, the Chairman of the Bahce§ehir University Board of Trustees. In January 2011 he joined the faculty of 13ahce§ehir University as a Distinguished Visiting Professor.

Throughout the past decade Heath Lowry has focused a significant portion of his oeuvre on retracing the life, conquest and building activity of the great 14th century March Lord, Ilaci-Gazi Evrenos. These publications include his 1993 The Nature of the Early Ottoman State; his 2008 The Shaping of the Ottoman Balkans; his 2010 [with Ismail E. Ertinsal] The Evrenos Dynasty of Yenice-i Vardar: Notes & Documents; and his 2010 The Evrenos Family & the City of Selanik (Thessaloniki). The present study adds additional pieces to this growing body of work by focusing on a number of heretofore unknown personal artifacts linkable to the Ottoman conqueror of the southern flank of the Balkans.
